Reflective Sign Sheeting: Grades, Specs and Buying Guide

What is reflective sign sheeting?

Reflective (retroreflective) sign sheeting is the film laminated onto sign blanks that returns headlight illumination back to drivers at night. It is specified by performance class — ASTM D4956 Type in North America, EN 12899-1 classes in Europe — not by structure nicknames alone.

Five specification rules that prevent bad buys

1. ASTM Type is tested performance — never infer it from glass-bead vs prismatic structure.
2. “Diamond Grade” is a 3M trademark, not a generic grade — specify by Type instead.
3. EN RA1/RA2 classes must name the standard version; national labels (R3B etc.) name their source.
4. Print compatibility and outdoor durability are per SKU and often per color.
5. Every live purchase should reference a TDS/test report — demo catalog values are placeholders.

Colors, printing, and converting

Standard colorways: white, yellow, red, green, blue, orange; fluorescent yellow-green and fluorescent orange for high-conspicuity programs. Screen printing is the default; UV digital and eco-solvent compatibility are per SKU. Converting: plotter cut, kiss cut, slit rolls, sheets.

Roll sizes and logistics (demo defaults)

Master rolls 1220 mm × 45.7 m (≈ 48 in × 50 yd); 24/36/48 in widths common. Typical export packing is 1 roll per carton (~30–31 kg), roughly 400 cartons per 20ft container — confirm on the PI before booking freight.
