Vehicle Reflective Tape Regulations Overview
Overview of DOT-C2, ECE 104, SASO 2913 and SOLAS contexts for vehicle conspicuity tape buyers—comparison table, evidence rules and product links. Not legal advice.
Why vehicle tape has multiple “standard names”
Exporters hear DOT-C2, ECE 104, SASO 2913 and SOLAS in the same inbox. They are not four stickers for one SKU. Each points to a market or sector context with its own test and marking expectations.
Comparison snapshot
| Context | Typical geography / sector | Buyer language | Site product entry |
|---|---|---|---|
| DOT-C2 | United States truck/trailer programs | DOT tape, DOT-C2 reflective tape | DOT-C2 tape |
| ECE 104 / E-mark | UNECE-linked vehicle marking programs | ECE 104 reflective tape | RFQ via conspicuity tape |
| SASO 2913 | Saudi / related Middle East programs | SASO 2913 tape | RFQ via conspicuity hub |
| SOLAS | Marine / shipboard reflective tape | SOLAS reflective tape | RFQ via conspicuity hub |
Always pair the name with destination and document expectations on the PO.
Evidence rules that prevent failed shipments
- A report for market A does not automatically prove market B.
- Marketing photos of “DOT” rolls are not lot evidence.
- Placement diagrams help installers; they do not replace type approval where required.
- If documents are still pending, use intent language only — see the callout on the DOT-C2 page.
